Inorganic Chemistry I
Prof. Dr. Nils Metzler-Nolte
Prof. Metzler-Nolte's research group conducts research in various areas of biological and medicinal inorganic chemistry. All projects involve the synthesis of (new) metal complexes and very often their bioconjugates with peptides or other biomolecules. Most of the projects are inspired by a medically relevant question.

Technical electrochemistry - activation of small molecules
Prof. Dr. Lars Borchardt
Prof Borchardt's research group is working on mechanochemistry in order to establish it as a resource-, energy- and time-efficient synthesis method for carbon-based electrode materials. In addition to gaining a fundamental understanding of the mechanochemical generation of porosity in carbon materials, the aim is to produce porous carbon from renewable resources or waste materials and to characterise it electrochemically as supercapacitor and Li-S electrode materials.
Dr. Johannes Karges
The research group led by Dr. Karges deals with topics in the field of medicinal inorganic chemistry. All projects carried out in the group concern the production, characterisation and use of metal complexes for biological or medical purposes. The aim is to understand, identify and/or influence biological processes in living cells with the aid of metal-based compounds. Our research therefore lies at the interface between inorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology and biology.
Inorganic Chemistry II
Prof. Dr. Viktoria Däschlein-Gessner
Prof. Däschlein-Gessner's research group focuses on the application of unique carbanionic compounds in the chemistry of main group elements and transition metals. The focus is on the development of systems with versatile functionalities and unusual chemical and electronic properties to enable new transformations and reactivities. The overall research strategy aims at an advanced understanding of the electronic structure and charge distribution within the prepared systems.
