Prof. Dr. Christian Herrmann

Brief Description

Prof Herrmann's research group focuses on protein interactions. Proteins are the main functional carriers in living organisms. Their interactions with each other and with other molecules, as well as with water as a solvent and other cosolvents, form the basis of most biological processes. Using biochemical and biophysical techniques as well as methods developed in-house, the interactions between proteins that play an important role in mediating cellular signalling are investigated. In addition, molecular processes in the enzymatically catalysed hydrolysis of guanosine triphosphate (GTP), which is important for the control of protein interactions, are being investigated. The aim of this work is to elucidate the specific mechanisms of action of the investigated proteins and, on the other hand, to derive generally valid laws that should lead to a general understanding of protein interactions.
